Smiling and Nodding

I used to enjoy debating politics however as our social and economic climate continues to change, I feel that I can no longer take up the good fight any longer.

I can no longer smile and nod and try to give genuine respect to someone else's views when they're filled with hate. Saying that you're "respectful of someone's homosexuality, but believe that it's a sinful abomination" is absurd. To paraphrase Jon Stewart, you can not respectfully call someone an abomination.

I can't listen while you say that your right to have a bevy of unregistered automatic weapons is more important than my child's right to live in a safer world. Yes, you're correct, the world is a dangerous place and you DO deserve the ability to defend your person and home. No one is trying to take that right away from you. Study the bills being proposed. Not one of them says "We'll be coming to your house and collecting all of your weapons, here's a slingshot and a bag of rocks to keep safe with". It's saying that unless you make a habit of people declaring war against your house, you do not need multiple unregistered guns that can spit out 50 rounds in a minute. If you DO require that, I think the pertinent question before us is who are you pissing off?

I can't stomach one more Obama / Hitler comparison. Quite frankly, that is egregiously offensive to everyone effected by the Holocaust. Incidentally, it also makes you look like an idiot. Proposing stricter gun laws is not comparable to mass genocide and ethnic cleansing, no matter how much you love your weapons. Not to mention, once you do compare our president to Hitler you immediately lose that debate on the grounds of Godwin's Law. Sorry, you lose, better luck next time.

I realize that this topic is not my normal silly mommy blog kind of piece, and for that I apologize to my readers.....all two of you, haha. However I'm simply too tired to smile and nod any longer.
